Impact: Window of Opportunity Opens a Crack

Word on the street is sealed up tighter than an acrophobic's sphincter at 10,000 feet about to take his first unwilling skydive--but Mr. Curious is on the job--and he delivers once again. Rumor has it that Bart Y. approached the PSP sometime in the last 48 hours to see if there was any way to get his team, Impact, into the pro scrum of Champions & Challengers. Apparently an offer was made that Bart was willing to take to the NPPL Board. Rumor has it that meeting didn't go Bart's way as the Board rejected the latest deal/offer/plan/whatever. That leaves Bart in the precarious position of deciding what to do and not having a lot of time to make that decision. Seems the offer came with a very limited window of opportunity to either accept it or reject it. Further complicating matters is just what sort of deal Bart can make independent of the rest of the NPPL Board. One supposes he can simply leave the NPPL to its own devices by putting his wallet back in his pocket and rejoining the PSP.

  1. So. Honest opinion from Mr C ... are we looking down the barrel of the end of NPPL after this season? At least in terms of Pro teams?

  2. Who is going to pay for Chuck's vacations now?

  3. How can nppl survive at all with 0 top pro teams?
This could easily be the last straw.

  4. 0 top pro teams? Dynasty and xfactor still count...... I think what you mean is less pro teams competing in both leagues. Dynasty, Impact (kinda, possibly,we guess...) and xfactor are the only 2 league teams unless I'm missing one. It just seems like the leagues are establishing their own pros and their own top level.

  5. Arsenal is a good team too.

  6. How long before the ~3 remaining big names say bye? They're all falling like dominoes if Impact is out, calling it now.

  7. Lack of pro teams does not kill a league..... if anything, fewer pro teams, while maintaining the number of teams total per event, means a better business case for the vendors.

As long as the NPPL can sign up enough teams per event, to pay the bills, they have a reason to operate.

Everyone is so caught up in the PSP vs NPPL rivalry, but in reality the NPPL could easily function, even if Dynasty and Xfactor went away also.

It would be a blow to their status as "high profile", but not necessarily a blow to the bottom line.

  8. The height;

Why bother at this point? The NPPL can't sell and the PSP is anything but the privatized prize package they advertise. 48 for any deal sounds crazy.

Bart is in a bad position, being in Canada is the real problem. The Americas can't sell this game to land owners and high investors, Canada is even more complicated with logistic distribution.

The lead should really be why the PSP can't cater to permanent bases within this country. That's the real problem.

  9. I agree with what the anon poster above me said.

The height of privatized distribution of prizes is more logistic in Canada and 48 crazies can't cater to PSP's real problem, which is permanent bases. Bart is in a bad position.

    I think.

Is that the mesohorny guy from pbnation?

  10. What does "privatized distribution of prizes" and "48 crazies" have to do with anything?

This is about Bart/NPPL and PSP working towards a possible agreement to let Impact play.

  11. I guess they're suggesting that maybe Bart should run a league in Canada instead of competing with the US? But Bart can't run a league in Canada because the USA is where "it's at".

But it would be crazy to imagine the dust settling and the PSP and NPPL holding hands as the NPPL becomes PSP Canada.

  12. One thing this whole PSP vs Impact as proxy for PSP vs. Bart as proxy for PSP vs. NPPL, as proxy for Lane/Dave vs. Chuck/Bart has done is take attention away from the blatant Millennium power plays in Europe which threatened to undermine the Millennium's legitimacy.

I assume Laurent is breathing a sigh of relief after unwisely posting that ridiculous screed online.

The Eurokids enjoy their outrage but to imagine they'd ever act on it is absurd. With or without our distractions distracting them ... ;)

  15. If Impact doesn't play, will it be 1 14-team bracket for Dallas or is Lane going to get the spot filled to have 3 5-team brackets?

  16. This is Insane! So much has been going on this offseason. I do feel bad for the players though Impact has such a stacked roster and the talent could be wasted.

    Baca,

Do you think the NPPL with fold? Will the CPS go under?

If the NPPl did fold what would Valken do?

    Yes.
Don't know enough about the CPS to offer an informed opinion.
NPPL not a big deal to Valken, just part of a temporary strategy.

  19. Is it wierd that I don't even think any of this is a particularly big deal?

  20. It has begun . . .

    Check out psp's facebook announcement.

  21. Interesting. Does this mean Bart is no longer investing in the NPPL?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I wonder if their full PSP roster will be used for Millennium and if not, will some Impact players be allowed to play for other teams at NPPL?

  23. Amazing, the PSP made the guy drop out of his own event :D

I'm wondering what division they will play in Europe, and if CPL, what team has dropped out?

Has the whole CPS debacle made a team drop the MS - or has someone sold their spot because the money was too good?

    Mr. C - do your job :P

    Yes.

That will be bewtween Bart and his players. The PSP won't care one way or the other.

Good question. I haven't heard anything solid yet.

  25. I would assume they are playing the MS in Dynapact's slot sans Dynarats.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That would be logical, but given Dynastys history in Europe, I would be surprised to see them leave the MS..... not least with the NPPL looking less attractive, and their main sponsor still wanting to make it big in Europe.
