On a Scale of 1 to 10; Ridiculous

(I was going to go with ludicrous instead of ridiculous but didn't want to have to put up with all the New Skoolers thinking I'd spelled ludicrous incorrectly.)
I almost bailed on posting this item--the latest from Mr. Curious--because he couldn't confirm it from multiple sources and because it seems so outlandish on its face I find it hard to credit. However, in looking around trying to get some (any) related info I discovered something kinda curious. There isn't any info at all, official or otherwise, to be had beyond some very dated material--which seemed odd to me. Anyway, either Mr. C got one wrong--and I'll never hear the end of it--or he didn't. Btw, for what it's worth, there's a lot of dis- and mis- information floating around related to all things NPPL, PSP & the Merger. Take it all, including this post, with a grain of salt. Unless you have, like, high blood pressure or other heart-related medical concerns.

Mr. Curious says the NPPL's PPV of Vegas isn't intended to be broadcast or available until early in 2012. That's it. See what I mean? Is the Super Bowl broadcast a month after it was played? Does the UFC put on their PPV events a week or two after the actual arena events take place? Of course not. Does that make any sense? Not to me it doesn't which is why I thought maybe Mr. C had been dipping a little too heavily into the pharmaceuticals again. But at the same time I can't find any info at all about the webcast or PPV or whatever regarding Vegas. Not even on their Facebook page! And it just seems odd there is no promotion for it at all. Then again, being a largely volunteer operation it may be nobody has gotten around to it yet. Anyway, there you have it.

I was pretty sure that when the info came out, that they were doing a PPV event, I had read somewhere that would be the case. Or maybe I just see the NPPL for what it really is and had always assumed it wouldn't be ready until early 2012.

Or maybe I'm Mr. C.

From Pev's Facebook -

SCOOP! Its official, NPPL is coming to On Demand and then Pay Per View in January 2012 to all the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean. Teams in Vegas will be filmed for "cameo" spots in the one hour show. If you are not in Vegas, kiss your Rock Star opportunity good bye!

So... does PEV's run the NPPL?

By the headline, I thought this was about the new Luxe, that thing made me laugh HARD. :D

Way to do your research, as someone else said, it's been on Pevs FB page for a while now.

And I think someone as someone else made this comparison before, like Fox new is the stooge of the GOP, you're the Fox news of the PSP. Congrats!

Preaching to your own choir. while trying to tear down others in paintball. Yep, just like Fox news. Needless to say, I think the more educated people in the sport and the industry take you like the do Fox nows, as a joke...

Hey Last Anon
So very tired. Still with the Fox News thing, eh? Whatever.

So what exactly am I tearing down? And when did Pev start being the official voice of the NPPL?

And when did PPV events start being broadcast months after the actual events happened? Still seems odd to me.

Beyond that this week's Monday Poll is doing you guys a favor. And none of you anonymous critics have ever disputed any of the facts I've posted. You just whine and offer up unfounded personal attacks while you think you're hiding behind your anonymity. Newsflash--Google Analytics tracks and keeps a record of your contacts with this blog.

Yeah, how did pev become the voice of the league? They didn't release the PPV update via official channels...so was this a cheap attempt to pick up "facebook likes" on pev's page, or did he blow the horn too early?

What I want to know is this; what and how are they going to broadcast 16 teams in less than 1 hour. What format are they using? Reality TV? Event cast (when we know the results?) What are they going after?

Also, who is the intended audience? Seems like we as a community are still chasing ghosts.

This doesn't sound like a webcast. With some filming being done for Vegas, but the show itself rolling out next year as some sort of streaming property.

It's not new. Older versions of NPPL on TV were long after the fact.

People do paintball event DVDs that don't come out until well after the event all the time. I know our National Champs TV show doesn't hit the airwaves until 6 weeks after the fact - it let's us edit the footage together into something easier to follow (although we do live webcast it too).

If it's an hour-long show, I'd think of it more as a event DVD than live webcast, and the PPV as being "more modern" distribution than printing and shipping DVDs.

A better question is, why would you do PPV when you could just do iTunes?

Other Anon is right-

What I find amusing is that Baca's spitfire fans keep coming back and providing not only some amusement but also an indirect affirmation that they enjoy checking this blog.

To be honest, however, I enjoyed the NPPL videos from 04-05. If it were of the same quality I'd pay to own a copy, but would definitely not "pay per view".

Patrick should also remake Push.

The DVD's from O4 - 05 were Pure Promotions DVD's. I doubt these will be the same quality as that, and besides, even with those DVD's, they never really made any money. As soon as one guy in an area has it, everyone else in that area just copies it. PPV actually makes much more sense, as the overhead is a lot lower, and it's harder to pirate.

I wonder how many of the people that say 'I would get that', would actually pay for it, and how many would just weasel a bootleg copy because 'only noobs pay for stuff/free stuff is agg' etc.

to Anon 7.40 - what amuses me is that you keep coming back here - an indirect affirmation that you also like checking this blog.

I think Anonymous is right on, but the other Anonymous is totally off the mark. Just saying...

@Reiner
I think it's the other way around... Anonymous is right on, but the other Anonymous is totally off the mark.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I just don't know who I am agreeing with...or disagreeing with. I don't know and I'm getting more and more confused.

I think I'm going to light up a joint now and see if I can figure it all out!
