VFTD Lite

Lite on posts in March, that is. I want to take this opportunity to warn the regulars awaiting their VFTD fix that you may suffer the occasional withdrawal pang in March. Looking at the calendar it seems I will be home 12 days in March. The rest of the month it's twice to Cali (starting tomorrow for a practice with the Ironmen at Capitol Edge) (& HB at the end of the month), once to Texas and over to France. That's not gonna leave much time for blogging though I should be able to handle the Galveston Divisional stuff--with help from the volunteer correspondents (could use a few more)--and some event comments. We'll see how it goes.
Also wanted to let y'all know that I will be providing Social Paintball with a monthly update on what's happening with Tampa Bay Damage. Since I seldom comment here about the team as a matter of unofficial blog policy I've agreed, with official blessing, to cover the team for Social. I'm going to try and manage a monthly update and include some pics (and/or videos) for Social to use as they see fit. I hope to have a Pre-Season Update to Social in the next few days before Galveston.
Finally a little light housekeeping. VFTD would like to welcome the newest members of the DPA (Deadbox Puppet Army) to the ranks. Greetings and welcome to Nisbah Rupa, Matthew Schultz & Stacy. Thanks!  Your roles in the coming World Domination will be sent covertly using the latest carrier pigeon technology. New identities will be provided along with access to our super-secret YouTube channel of inspirational songs and Do-It-Yourself world conquest video series.

VFTD Housekeeping

Comments is (apparently) currently not functioning. At least it isn't working for me. Please take a moment and try to access a "comments" option under any post. If you can--drop me a line identifying your browser. Thanks.

UPDATE: It seems the problem impacts only IE8/9 and only in the comments form that VFTD has been using. Comments has been switched to a different formating--opening a separate window--until (if) there's a Blogger fix. If anyone has issues with the new comments format let me know.

December Will Be Mailbag Month!

December posts will be devoted to Baca's Mailbag. (Unless timely & interesting news demands a comment or two.) All postings in December will be in response to questions, comments, observations, etc. either posted on VFTD's Facebook page or delivered to my own private Tora Bora via the email link on the sidebar. So it's up to you, slackers. If you want some VFTD to occupy you through the dark days of winter you know what you have to do--hope somebody else sends in some stuff.

Housekeeping

VFTD has experienced some behind the scenes issues with comments and within the last couple of days the situation has deteriorated to the point where I can't post a comment in VFTD's comments section. I'm working on a variety of fixes so if you notice any changes in the next few days that will probably be me. (At the same time Blogger is making changes--upgrades they call them--to the Blogger environment which, may or may not, be part of my problems.) Hopefully this won't last too long.

Anyway, regarding the Is player performance quantifiable in paintball? there have been a number of interesting responses. Thanks, and keep it up.

A Little Light Housekeeping

I'm taking a breather today from all the heavy topic stuff of the last few days. Partly because I've had my knuckles rapped with the ruler (again) (mostly for just generally pissing off certain people) and partly because Mr. Curious has a couple of revelations in the pipeline he's not ready to release just yet--some top secret industry shens is all he'll tell me. (I hope to have postworthy info next week.)
There will be a new The Monday Poll on Monday. It will be a completely self-serving poll.
VFTD will also have a report (and pics) next week on the crazy game Shoreline is running (Real Extreme Paintball) on some nameless Dalmatian coast island this weekend (even as I post.)
Requests have come in for a review of the upcoming WCPPL event layout and I'll try to post something during the weekend.
If you missed hearing the news CFP (Central Florida Paintball) received the (near?) unanimous support of the county commissioners at a hearing on the 12th of July which will allow the field to continue offering the best tourney fields in Florida to a lot of paintballers. Well done to all involved and a special thanks to everyone who supported CFP especially those able to appear at the hearing.
Finally VFTD would like to offer a belated thanks and welcome to the most recent recruits to the Deadbox Puppet Army; CTTA Global, Patrick Sheegog & Gary Baum of PaintballPhotography.com who has recently posted some cool aerial footage of D-Day Oklahoma 2011. World domination is on the horizon. (Too bad I couldn't copyright the world domination schtick since everybody and his cousin Elmo has been ripping it off lately.)

Blogger Error

It seems Blogger will not allow me to comment--at the moment. If this is also happening to you please try again later. Also, I don't know if something similar is affecting this week's Monday Poll volume or y'all find this one boring. This problem is affecting a significant number of Blogger users currently so hopefully there will soon be a fix.

VFTD Notice

Seems Blogger has been on the fritz since sometime last night. The automated response pages assure that everything, including prior postings, will be back to normal at some point in the near future. We'll see. It appears the only missing post is the Zack Patient Pro*file. In the meantime solider on, Sunshine.

UPDATE: I can't replace lost comments but if the Pro*file doesn't return I'll repost it tomorrow sometime.
UPDATE2: Zack is back. Still nothing on lost comments.

VFTD Needs You

Not really, I'm just lazy but there is one thing you could do. Next week's Monday Poll is going to ask about your favorite online paintball websites--and not because I'm hoping VFTD will win--I will be leaving VFTD off the list. (Since respondents all visit VFTD at least often enough to respond to the Monday Poll I don't want to queer the result.) (Haha. He typed "queer." Haha.) (Yes I did.) What I don't want to do is leave off any other viable candidates simply because I may be unaware of them. So here's the deal. If there's a website or two (or more) you visit regularly that I don't have on the sidebar somewhere please mention them in comments so I can check them out and add them to the list for next week's Monday Poll. Hard to screw that up so I'm especially looking forward to see how some of you manage it.

VFTD Needs You

I need your help. Yes, you. (Okay, maybe not you specifically but hear me out.) I'd like to hear from players, captains, owners of teams that have played 2 or more national events in the last two years but have not (yet) played a national event this year. Drop me a line at Baca's email if you would. I'd like to ask you a few questions. I will be posting on the responses but won't post any reply or comment for attribution without prior permission. Who better to help explain the current environment than the people and players who have been there and done that? And if you know somebody who fits the bill but isn't a regular reader please encourage them to participate as well.

Also, took care of a little light housekeeping. There were a few noticeable cobwebs gathering in the corners. I've added a new link to Paintball Sites Around The Web with Infopaintball. Looks like Vince has a bit of all sorts of things going on. I've also dropped a few Paintblogs due to extended periods of inactivity--and I could have cut the numbers further than I did--so if your paintblog is still there but you've been slacking I hope this encourages you to be more active. (Or else.) Besides, I could use the company.

VFTD Stuff

Right, I missed last week's enlistment announcement. Maybe the last couple of weeks. Oops. Not like it mattered as the DPA has actually lost a member. I blame the economy. I'll try to keep up but if anyone does decide to enlist drop me a note so I don't overlook anyone else. Thanks.

UPDATE: Is the lost recruit back or is there a new enlistee? Help me out.

Remember my effort a couple (or more?) weeks ago to try and stop the onslaught of "friends" dropping Facebook requests into Baca's emailbox? Well, it didn't work very well. In fact, it only precipitated an ongoing wave of daily requests that continue to clutter the place up. So, I'ma try a new tactic--I surrender. I will be converting the Facebook page into a VFTD-oriented page (maybe this weekend sometime) and hopefully it will be possible to do all the cool internet friends thing without my direct participation. If not--well, I guess I'll cross that bridge when the time comes. Maybe y'all can hang out and be friends with each other.

Picking up the 'Name That Penalty' series next week, probably on Tuesday. Finishing those posts will have priority so unless something big comes up ...

Vaca for Baca

Baca needs a break. It’s vacation time! But no worries, kids, I’m not going all Kobe on ya. Baca’s not gonna start speaking about himself in the third person. And the break won’t be all that long even if it seems endless while I’m gone. Trust me, you’ll manage. Dry that eye, Little Soldier, and I’ll be back before you know it.

In the meantime start cranking out those questions for the VFTD Lane Wright Interview.

How long will I be gone? Look at the time stamp on The Monday Poll.

Sorry Kids

Came home from WCO to a major computer meltdown on Monday and I'm just digging out from under today and should be up to speed by tomorrow. (And, yes, it's taken me this long to save my data and fix the damn thing but when it crashed on Monday I couldn't even access any start-up mode to begin to figure out what happened. That, and I'm mostly computer illiterate.) Hopefully I'll have the Campaign OTB posted tonight some time followed by a more in-depth field analysis tomorrow or Friday.

This Week at VFTD

Who am I kidding? I thought (hoped) posting a weekly schedule would give some order to this whole blogging process but it hasn't. A couple of things are working against my inclination for regularity. (Thanks, Metamucil!) Stuff comes up in the course of a week that grabs my attention and some of the posts actually require a bit of work and I don't always have the time to put into them that I'd like so it looks like we will all have to be satisfied with whatever I can manage. (Okay, you don't have to be satisfied, you can come and go as you please.) This was mostly a long-winded way of saying I'ma discontinuing the weekly schedule for those who find the lack of adherence more annoying than they do humorous. Otherwise all the regulars will be posted (more or less) when they are supposed to be. MLP Updates on Tuesdays and so on. Contingent on this week's Monday Poll, of course.
