The Monday Poll

Prior to World Cup we had the projected "winners" of World Cup poll and with the help of hindsight it's time to choose the World Cup losers. You may choose more than one answer and if you can muster the energy I'd be extra interested in comments explaining why you picked the answers you chose. Some are serious, some not so much. Some are probably fairly self-explanatory but others aren't. Have an opinion and share it. Dammit!

Monday Poll in Review
74% of responders watched, intended to watch and/or loved the webcast. More to the point of those familiar with the webcast only 9% either found it unappealing or preferred the NPPL webcasts. (And who are we kidding? Chuck and only 3 of the 16 USPL owners voted for their product. Okay, now I'm kidding. I have no idea who voted for what.)
The poll was mostly intended to generate awareness and interest in watching the World Cup webcast anyway. I hope you took advantage of the opportunity always keeping in mind that the road to real sports legitimacy isn't an easy one and that how the sport is promoted and how many people show an interest matters. And matters a great deal.

Disney World lost in the sense that the new venue largely didn't affect the atmosphere or success of the event. Fantasy of Flight (from what I hear) was a wonderful venue with amazing grass and a pretty good event setup save for parking.

USPL/NPPL lost because World Cup is still huge. Vegas is this weekend and I haven't heard any mention of it. I don't know how many teams are going and I'm sure because they were scheduled on consecutive weekends, the USPL might have lost some teams...

NPPL really did get shafted by the PSP's choice of date. NPPL is going to have a great venue, but who is showing up to play 7 man, on a field they haven't gotten to practice, the week after a huge event on the opposite coast?

As much as the NPPL got it bad the vendors got screwed in the same way. First it was the choice between World Cup or the PB extravaganza. Now even the people who could afford to make both are most likely not making the trip west for the NPPL event. If somehow they do make the trip the people who work for the vendors are now losing potentially a month of their life away from home, selling and networking. I've never felt so bad for the booth guys. Well I've never really felt bad for the booth guys before, so I guess this is a first.

My own priority is to create awareness of the sport and promote a FANBASE of the teams. Not just the event itself. PSP should keep newsworthy information on the front of their sites but it seems only pbnation is the faster.

Russians winning seem lackadaisical in a sense of a third party trying to watch something they should be fans of. the only true fans are the ppl at the show, the teams not making to sunday, and the tourney player who never made it to the event.. so lets talk revenue?
Did we sell to the player with 5 tournament markers, 30 jerseys, and are king of their local fields... again.
Or did we market the sport to the public to get more noticed as a true sport and spectacle, worthy to be on the covers of sports magazines. And create a fan base that will buy whatever we sell them. How do we get the new addicted to what we cannot stop doing... playing paintball.
i'm rambling again...

i know... i almost speak in tongues..
Example: i did not watch the Minnesota, Green Bay game... and i hear Favre played well - but i don't play football to know that.. news and highlights tell me so.
Promoting to outsiders seem the best way to see growth.
Unity in tourneys will stop some of the fighting.
Marketing instead of investing in so much technology to go around other ppls patents will also help in more playing.
My thoughts, and I'm rambling yet again.

No Chris, you are right on. (Damn, I've dated myself. Again.) Everybody argues over whether the pie is shrinking or not but nobody really works to enlarge it. Instead they all jump on the latest trend and start the same old market share wars all over again.
And it's a particularly critical area for competitive paintball.
I'm posting on this general topic later today and will have some follow-ups regarding the latest from the PSTA in a week or two.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE new stuff, love the tech and all that... but now I cant put my car in my garage anymore.
For the new guy, he needs to do and feel the same as I do or at least as I once did. I have so much guns that wont sell anymore.

But to the new guy, he knows that if i promote my history and what i did, he'll by my Dragon for 1200 bucks. But, if i want him to just play (as an ambassador to the sport) and let him decide to be really in it. I let him borrow it, get him to buy some 400.00 wooptydoo and then... the Dragon lol.
The other thought 50 cal is built on economy not necessity. It is good, not better.

I will still shoot my Cocker, my GZ and not conform to the new world trends (besides my own). Unless.... it is needed. And I do need a Rotor and some decent paint...I also looking for a mask to fit my fat head or at least cover my jaw.

Its been awhile since I have spoken out.

Lets start with the poll..

I vote that the Church of Scientology got the /most/ out of the event. At the behest of TBDamage *cough*, the Scientologists/Clearwater FL played host to the Russian Legion for the day. Damn recruiters! :P

But seriously, the biggest losers have to be the red ants and their pesky ant hills in the middle of the fields. Paintball came, paintball saw(the PSP dumped sand????), and paintball conquered.

As far as Chris C's comment goes. I wager that the Mona Lisa is only valuable to those who have been sold the story. If you tried to pawn it off on me (sans-5th grade art education), I'd of told you you can keep the self portrait. I'm sure the same goes for those old beat up paintball guns that take up all the space in our gear bags and garages, and closets, and storage spaces..There are two wise sayings that apply to our old "glory days" paintball gear. The first being, "Art is in the eye of the beholder" and the second being, "One mans trash is another mans treasure".

You can pry my predator 'cocker from my cold, dead hands!

So how far do you all wager this 50cal concept is going to go?

New rumors are saying that they have adjusted the weight of the .50 cal ball so that it will still be shot at 300fps at the fields and that it will only drop a few feet shorter then the old .68

This might soften the blow. People really could continue to play with what ever they wanted and switch when they want too. I don't want to say I ever hated the idea, but I was never a fan. Now I guess I comfortably say I'm ambivalent.

did you find out who it's 30% cheaper for?
