Major League Paintball Held Hostage, Day 29

The countdown for Phoenix will begin Monday (of registered and PAID teams) so today is C minus 3. And counting.

USPL quickly tossed out some new info--a left coast regional in San Jose and floated the idea of a Miami season ender--to give everyone something other than the paint surcharge rumor to talk about.

Besides, peeps are far more interested in who will end up on the PSP pro rosters as the word on some of the players slowly starts to leak (and teams are forced to start making the hard decisions.)

Are the teams and players that contract with photographers to cover their event participation usually unserious teams? On a slow Friday I'm marginally interested in the answer. I ask the question that way because I guess I tend to lean toward that explanation. Not for any good reason really ... but apparently lacking sentimentality it never occurs to me at the time. That, and it's bad ju-ju to let the magic box steal your soul.

UPDATE: A little light housekeeping and as I've given Frederica the day off ...
Paintball on the Web at the bottom of the sidebar has added socialpaintball.com, a new site dedicated to paintball related video, and removed the NXL and pbreserve sites as there is, for now, no more NXL and pbreserve is now ProPaintball. VFTD is glad to add any paintball site(s) to the list. Just drop me a line with the link.

Mostly just PB Moms willing to fork out the bucks to get decent pics of their kids nowadays. A couple of years ago, there were tons of lower division pictures free for the taking on-line. No so much anymore, hence hiring photographers in order to guarantee pictures. Plus, I suck at getting anything decent when taking pictures through the net.

Unserious teams? Are you serious?

I think maybe what he was getting at is, are you really a Pro team if you have to pay someone to take pictures of you?

The answer to that is, yes, I'm sure any real pro team has paid photographers that take photos for team use.

I hear ya, Kim. Unserious was probably the wrong word.

Actually Chris, it's not what I was getting at. Typically sponsors pay for photography if they want particular pictures.
What I was getting at is the difference between teams that play to win and teams that are happy to be there--for lack of a better distinction.

I play with a bunch of duffers and they paid for a photographer at an event last season. Those pictures were in the packages we gave to potential sponsors for this year and the package look sharp, better then I would have guessed. Also the photos showed my perfect form.
More importantly shouldn't you be bending your considerable mind powers to directing the future of paintball? Not thinking about team photo stuff?

Good point, Bobcat. I don't know why I tend to think of that sort of thing as mostly a vanity project.

I'm multi-tasking. I'm reading two magazines, one book and working out the site maps for three websites right this very minute. Piece of cake. Paintball on the other hand is like a two year old. It's favorite word is no.
